You want a surface pro or a real laptop that can handle pro apps or HT apps like Premiere or Photoshop.  Because surface cant handle that.  I would def get a laptop compared to a surface pro if you do heavy work on it.  Whta specs do you want on your laptop ?  How much RAM ?  How much storage space and also you will need SSD.  What apps do you use or would like to use with new laptop ?

Asus Sabertooth x79 / 4930k @ 4500 @ 1.408v / Gigabyte WF 2080 RTX / Corsair VG 64GB @ 1866 & AX1600i & H115i Pro @ 2x Noctua NF-A14 / Carbide 330r Blackout

Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface / KRK Rokits 10" / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse & G915 Linear & G935 & C920 / SL 88 Grand / Cakewalk / NF-A14 Int P12 Ex
AOC 40" 4k Curved / LG 55" OLED C9 120hz / LaCie Porsche Design 2TB & 500GB / Samsung 950 Pro 500GB / 850 Pro 500GB / Crucial m4 500GB / Asus M.2 Card

Really just general use, Films, YouTube, web surfing so more storage than anything, I have a full tower computer already for the big things, this is just for traveling with really.

Look at used business laptops. A ThinkPad T450 or T450s should be within budget. Those are far and away better than the cheap junk you can get new.

With that budget I'd probably look at something used, but since you got that in Argos vouchers I think your most interesting choices will be the £400ish laptops they got with Ryzen chips.

There's not a whole lot of choice in Argos at that price.

If storage is of importance than you can probably go with something like this: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2207894
And if you're willing to sacrifice the stroage to get something slightly more snappy with an SSD: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2017541

You might want to go to a PC World if you have one close, they'll probably have the same models with slightly diffrent specs, so you can have a try and get a feel for the laptop (ie. if you like the keyboard and build quality), before deciding to buy.
