Hello, I have built gaming computers in the past however my job is willing to send me to college for cad design, always nice when it's paid for by someone else :). I have a general layout idea in mind on pc part picker, my budget will be 1500$ for this cad pc. I would like to learn at home before being thrown into it in a college setting as it is something I recently became fascinated about... Is there any changes any of you would recommend to this layout? Or is this a pretty solid layout for a pc for 3d printing?

Thanks, I will look into it. I had a few people say it would be overkill but mind you I am using a few programs to also try an make an android game for fun, so i may use it for more then just cad since I will have it around the house, but I haven't decided what other uses yet. As I don't game much anymore lol anyways thanks, will def look into it.

Most tasks in cad software are still single core so i would prioritise frequency over core count. i also recommend sticking with nvidia for the gpu as most cad software is validated and optimised for quadros, but because you dont have the budget for a quadro a gtx/rtx is a good alternative as they have a similar ish architecture.

With your budget I recommend a 9700k and a RTX 2070.
