Hey everyone,

Is it safe to plastidip the PCB of my GPU and the PCB of my Mobo?

Sortof like this except black:

My mobo and gpu are in my sig. Thanks!

Eww that looks horrible and I'd imagine it wouldn't be great for the mobo heat wise. I wouldn't do it myself.

Plastidip is spray on electrical tape. Which basically means it won't conduct electricity.

However, it is an insulator, as others have said. So be careful about using it in regards to thermals.

I think I am going to go through with it... I will do updates in my build log  :D

Hope you are over 18.... Had quite a good time at Walmart trying to buy some plastidip... After about an hour and a half of swearing at this stupid ass employee I walked out empty handed...

My mom will be picking up a few cans for me tomorrow...

i wouldn't do that. Motherboards are very sensitive, spraying it might fry it immediately. If it survives, there will be a ton of heat problems down the line. Paint isnt very conductive, so think of it like a small blanket over your mobo.

if you REALLY want to do it, at least make sure its warranty is up, and isnt a very expensive mobo.

... Seriously. How is a can of electrical tape being sprayed onto a motherboard going to fry it immediately?

And I disagree. I've man-handled well over 50 motherboards. 98% of which still work. The one that doesn't function anymore didn't work to begin with before I touched it.

The only really sensitive part of a motherboard are the capacitors. Break those off, and you are screwed. Beyond that, it's hard to break one. The CPU pins for Intel/Opteron motherboards are hard to break unless you actually try to do it. Because most of the time, they are covered by something (i.e. CPU or pin cover)

Buy Plastidip.

It's literally spray-on electrical tape.

I feel like I should tape off the larger capacitors... If I do decide to rip off the plasti, I don't want to take capacitors with it. That or I might just do a really thin coating.

Well, yeah. You want it as thin as possible.

No point in caking it on honestly. Worse thermals, and it's wasteful. Though it'd be easier to take off that way.
