Afternoon All,

I recently bought a WD 500GB M2 2280 SSD SATA for my Dell 7559 Laptop, which has a 1TB SATA HD in already.

I installed the SSD, downloaded Acronis True Image and started a clone from my main HD to the SSD, as I wish to use the SSD for windows etc.

Once it was complete, I tried to boot however couldn't get any further than safe mode as it would always just black screen or BSOD with (criticial process died)

I can see the SSD has got the cloned installation, and the old HD still has everything installed.

To troubleshoot I took out the SSD and Windows booted fine. I put the SSD back in and took the HDD out and it will not boot just goes to black screen.

I've now come to realise that cloneing is not a good way of doing all this and I shouldn't of done it, but it's a bit late now.

Can anyone recommend what I shall do from here? I cant actually boot in to windows with the SSD plugged in. I'm thinking I need to boot from USB drive and do a fresh install of everything straight on to the SSD?

Bit annoying as I was trying to avoid losing all my files! I have no backup media so means purchasing all that aswell.

Any advice if anyone thinks im missing something would be greatly appreciated.

Cloning typically works fine. I clone anywhere from 15-30 drives a week for my company and rarely have issues.

Wipe the SSD and try to clone it again. Macrium Reflect usually works well for me. Make sure you set your partitions up right if your SSD is smaller than your HDD.
