I wonder how DNS is able to set search engines into safe mode?   Do the search engines have specific IP addresses for locked-down search services?

Personally I run my own filters on pfSense, I'd rather get unfiltered DNS into the router and have control over what happens from there.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

can you blokc only some ads  iwant to suport llinux  tech tips  and so on by ads not by pay every month

Yes its completely customisable.

You can load blocklists full of URL's, or you can add individual URL's to the blacklist, and you can Whitelist URL's to stop them being blocked as well.

I use a Raspberry Pi 3b+ which was the best one out when I set mine up. The Raspberry Pi 4 is considerably faster though with its new chip.

The Pi-Hole website will tell you what to do: https://pi-hole.net/

And these are how to install the OS & Pi-Hole

https://thepi.io/how-to-install-raspbian-on-the-raspberry-pi/

https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole/#one-step-automated-install

Pi-Hole comes with about 250k sites in its default blocklists, but as I said I use some of the categories from here: https://blocklist.site/app/

The lists i decided to use leave me with approx 900k blocked domains

Well it needs to be Always-On, so if you have a server always on then sure do that.

I put mine on a Pi to seperate what is required for the network to just run my Wifi + Internet. Doesnt matter if my server goes offline as far as my networks concerned.
