Ddr4 memory laptop

Hi guys, 

 

I`m a bit noob at this but can I run a laptop with 12gb of ram using 1 Ddr4 stick of 8gb and 1 Ddr4 stick kd 4 gb?

yes you can, if the laptop has multiple ram slots you can put those two sticks

 

if laptop has 4 gbs already soldered and only 1 slot, you can use it too

You can but it'll likely be running in single channel mode and the frequency will be that of your slowest stick, same thing with timings. 

My laptop came with 12GB (used), I took out the 4GB 1066mhz stick and the 8GB stick started running at 1866mhz , games that don't utilize that much memory have been running better lol. 
Eventually I'll get a 2nd 1866mhz stick with similar timings to match, but until I start pushing over into PageFile 8GB is plenty.
