Hey everybody, here is my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z2xxnH#compatibility_notes

I was rolling the dice to see if maybe the MB would have the required bios update for the new Ryzen, but the system did not post. Fine, that's cool. So I got an Athlon 200 GE  (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HJWVJDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that I planned on using for updating the bios. However, with the Athlon in, it still doesn't post. The LED on the mb looks to me to be yellow-green, indicating a BOOT issue. Although I'm kind of colorblind so it could be just yellow indicating RAM, although I don't think that is the case.

Here is the light for those with sharper eyes 2019-07-20.jpg

All the fans are on and lit up, my cpu cooler is also on. I tried to clear the rtc ram but that did not help either.

Was trying this with an athlon a bad idea? Does it have to be an older ryzen?

AMD sends you a boot kit for free, did you buy that one?

Hit up their customer support for a freebie loaner, send the one you bought back to Amazon. Also ask their CS if you can troubleshoot.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Yep, everything appears do be powered on. No display. Tried connecting to display port and hmdi on GPU and hdmi on the mb with the athlon in

Ryzen does not have integrated graphics. so if your plugging it into the board, dont. plug it into your GPU. if you dont have one, Get one. normally if you dont have a GPU hooked into the PC, it will beep twice i believe to warn you and wont post.

is there any post error? or just turns on and does nothing. does it beep at all?

I'm cool with having the Athlon around for troubleshooting on other builds and whatnot so not worried about getting the bootkit

Right, I only plugged it into the board when the Athlon was in, it does have graphics.

that would probably be one of your parts then. like the motherboard if you tried multiple CPUs. because theres no reason why it would just Not give you a post or post error. if your able to try different ram, try it without ram, try it without hard drives e.t.c. and see what happens. you may need to return and purchase the same motherboard again.

The ram is 3600mhz, would that not play nice with the Athlon? I don't have any other ddr4 ram on hand at the moment

try swapping arround the ram, sometimes taking it out and putting it back in can fix things. or order cheap ddr4 on amazon. you can always return it free when your done with testing.

i dont think 3600 would affect it. if it did it would give a post error

It's possible the post error is the ram if that led is yellow. Can't tell tho.

The Mobo doesnt have a speaker for beeps

I borrowed a stick of ddr4 from a friend and same thing. Thinking it's gotta be a bad board at this point despite all its LEDs being on.

I 've rwcently had that too with b450 from gigabye. Wasted like 6-7 hours for troubleshooting. Waiting for replacement sucks but the board was indeed DOA and they have sent me a new one.

So return it and get a new board. Dont RMA it, it will just be a pain. return it and buy a new one.

Probably yes, as those athelons are not good at detecting higher speed ram.

They are not as reliant on it as the rest of the AM4 chips.

The stick I borrowed from my friend is 3000mhz. You think I would need to go lower?
