because the i7 4770k is better for editing while the i5 4670k is better for gaming

I'm assuming you're going to be doing Nvidia surround?

Am I correct?

If so, one 780TI won't be enough to power all three on max settings.

If you don't mind playing on Medium then you should be fine.

and we all fall downnn..  :P

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only a GTX 1080, just a single 1080, where my glorious PC once stood....

For that is all I need, For the Emperor of Man, Jen-Hsun Huang, protects. We march for Nvidia, and we shall know no fear!

I feel so stupid. I went to buy it and then realized it was in store pickup only. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could get it without going to the store?

Buy your case already if you are really sure because cases pretty much stay at the same price points all year round. Same with the SSD and Hard drive which likely will remain at the same price (I would advise against buying a 4tb model though... I am pretty sure lower capacity (1tb and 2tb) models have much lower failure rates, so I would get two of those instead). For windows 8.1, why do you want to pay so much? NCIX has the same type of 64bit OEM key for 99 canadian dollars (http://products.ncix.com/detail/microsoft-windows-8-1-64bit-english-dvd-oem-c1-91219-1347.htm).

What I would definitely hold out on is the graphics card, memory, cpu, and motherboard. Motherboard seems a little excessive because you could get the same OC results with a MB half the price. Memory might drop in price, or who knows you might be able to get DDR4 by then! CPU should be a new generation by then. Graphics card in particular should be refreshed to new maxwell models after 2 years of rebranding by NVIDIA (and AMD).

For the monitors I would recommend the Dell S2240M or S2240L instead of those acer models. Although they use nearly identical great panels by LG, Dell is definitely a more trustworthy monitor brand, costs less in canada, and a 22 inch size is better for 2 monitor surround IMO because you can see more without turning your head as much. Also, while the panels are nearly identical, the components inside are not, and recent dell IPS monitors have been known to have minimal input lag and ghosting compared to panel by other manufacturers (I'm not talking about advertised input lag, but actual input lag). If you look at my post history, you'll see my last post was precisely about this particular dell monitor and you can find the canadian links to buy those there...

The monitors I want because they have a VERY small bezel. I will probably get a cheaper MoBo. The windows didn't need to be exactly that one just a sort of list tool. If you could find two 2tb 7200rpm drives that are reliable I will definitely switch them out.

because the i7 4770k is better for editing while the i5 4670k is better for gaming

I dont get how people come to this conclusion..., how is 4 intel cores better than the same 4 intel cores but with hyperthreading?

if the hyperthreaded isnt used its the same cpu, maybe a 5% degredation in worst case scenario but you can disable it in bios.

and while paying more and disabling it might seem stupid how about heavily threaded games coming out and being able to leverage more threads and having to sell the i5 to buy an i7 later?

how many people say "im not going to buy an 8350 because a 4300 is better for gaming".

nice build though, buy it

I just looked at your banner, and realized you are using Astro A40s. If you have 3200$ to spend on a build, I'm sure you could either do something like get a little lower end graphics card than a 780 ti (such as a 780) or just spend a little more to get good headphones. Seriously, the trade off is worth it.

Definitely planning on it. Probably won't take anything away other than a few changes that I have made with the advice of the people in this thread. Have you tried the audio technica ath-m50's?

The M50's are great, but these days there are several better alternatives (depends on the price you can get them at though). First of all because they are closed headphones, they don't leak sound as much and isolate to a certain point, but at the same time they don't have as good a soundstage as open headphones, and a nice soundstage is quite a big part of gaming audio.

Personally what I always recommend is instead of spending for example 200$ on an all around closed headphone for home and outside use, I recommend getting... say 130$ open headphones for home use and 70$ In ear monitors (earphones that go into your ear canal and isolate better than most closed headphones). That way you get good isolation and portability when on the go, and a great soundstage when at home.

@D3MON that was basically my take on it. I was sure the i7 would be better in the long run than the i5
