Hello, I have been having this issue for a while and have tried on my own to find a fix for it but I still have not. The issue Ive been having is in games, no matter what game it is, it will crash by either freezing with sound continuing, or throwing an error on the screen and returning to desktop. I then have to restart the game and will most likely get the error again, but this isn't 100% of the time, just most of the time. If I keep restarting whatever game I'm trying to play over and over again eventually it will just start working and will run fine no problems. Some examples of the error occurring are in Minecraft the game just freezes and I have to force close it, in OVerwatch I get an error that says your rendering device has been lost, and in FFXIV I get a popup saying fatal direct X error 11000002.

Things I have tried to fix this are, upgrading PSU, RMA GPU, new RAM, new MOBO, basically rebuilding the PC, reinstalling Windows, updating Bios, updating all drivers, and many other fixes. Any help would be appreciated.

Specs:

Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk

GPU: GTX 1080

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: Corsair ddr4 16gb

PSU: Corsair CX650M 650watts

If I forgot anything let me know.

ok damn, sooo the only thing you did not RMA is the CPU right? Maybe it is the reason.

I just installed a Ryzen 5 3600, started up a game and nope issues continues. That was the last part that I hadnt replaced besides the ssds and hdds. Could that possibly have been the issue all along?

My cousin and I are having similar issues, pc doesn't crash but games do.  When you replaced the ram, was it the same ram kit? or a different one?

If it was the same kit I would try a different brand. make sure it has Samsung chips in it.

Maybe you can barrow some from a friend.

We replaced his corsair ram with my Trident Z.

it work for him, but have no idea why.

I'm starting to suspect the memory controller of the amd chip.

Its Corsair Vengeance, I already ran memtest and all that and it passed with no issues.

His is corsair vengeance as well. It also passed memtest, stress tests and other benchmarks.  Showed no errors. Games are the only thing that crashed to desktop.

Swapping his ram with my trident seemed to fix it.

I know my suggestion isn't the best , you can't always just go and buy expensive ram to try.

But if you can, I would try another brand and try to make sure it's Samsung chips. I hear AMD likes those the best.

Also is your ram listed on the motherboard qvl list? Not required but it can help with compatibility.

At any rate I do hope this is figured this out for you, problems like can be infuriating.

New RAM seemed to fix the crashing for now! Thank you, after all this I basically just upgraded everything. But now I have a new issue, I reinstalled Windows just to have a fresh install and randomly Windows becomes unresponsive where I can still move my mouse and hear audio but the screen freezes and I can't click anything, it eventually recovers after like 10 seconds.
