BETTER BOOT DRIVE

Can anyone help me selecting a better boot drive for my system I have came across 2 nvme's SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS 250 GB and INTEL 660P 500 GB among them which one will be better ?

My system specs are (ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING, INTEL CORE i7-8700K, G-SKILL TRIDENT-Z RGB 3200 Mhz 32 GB, WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 1 TB, SAMSUNG 860 PRO 256 GB, 32 GB INTEL OPTANE,  NVIDIA ZOTAC GEFORCE® GTX 1070, CORSAIR CX650)

PS. I know I have optane memory but i just want to experiment.

i think samsung is cheaper, but go with whichever one is actually the cheapest. you won't notice any difference between the two NVMes for booting or daily use

Na samsung is costlier but there price are very close. Just checked on amazon prime day sale.

You already have an extremely fast boot drive, I would seriously question the value in upgrading to any other single drive you can use on that platform.

 

However, if you were to get X570 and a PCIe 4.0 drive, or just run 2+ drives in RAID on your current setup, you could get a speed boost.  Again, is this worth it vs what you have now?  imo, absolutely not, but that would be the path forward if you really want the speed.

the boot times will not be noticeable. you won't see a huge improvement using nvme over sata for booting

Well if you want to go NVMe on this platform the 970 EVO Plus you picked out certainly is one of the best.  The 970 Pro may be faster though, but at a higher cost.  The 660p is a cheaper option intended for higher GB/$ at the expense of write endurance and speed.

either one will perform almost entirely comparable. if you're determined, get the cheaper one or the one with the better warranty. intel & samsung both make very good nvmes
