HELP! Game can only be played at 60hz on my 100hz monitor with elgato hd60s

DarthSmartt
Go to solution Solved by DarthSmartt,

I figured out a work around. If i just have all three of my displays extended I can create a display capture(which doesn't use many resources if obs isnt streaming) in obs on my main pc and use fullscreen projector mode to project it to the hd60s. Then I can use my monitor at 2560x1080 at 100hz in games and record through elgato at 1920x1080p60.

This guy helped me out

I have my 3440x1440 monitor in 2560x1440 to make it pleasing to my stream at 16:9 instead of having black bars. I have my monitor connected through display port and my elgato hd60s connected though hdmi. I am able to mess with some DSR settings to be able to have my monitor in 1440p and my capture card in 1080p60. I can tell my desktop is at 100hz when i move the curser and stuff but as soon as I launch fortnite, I notice the game is only at 60hz. The framerate is higher but when I turn on vsync it is capped at 60, and with vsync off i can visibly see that it is still 60hz. My display settings and nvidia control panel both say my monitor is at 100hz. This is in borderless mode, and when I try fullscreen, the game is displaying 100hz, but my resolution is stuck at 1920x1080. Is there any way I can do both?

Build:

Intel Core I7 6700k (clocked to 4.6ghz)

Patriot Viper 3000mhz ddr4

ASUS maximus 8 hero (I hate this mobo)

Evga gtx 1080 superclocked

250GB Samsung 850 evo

2tb WD Black 7200rpm

Ek watercooling kit a240g with 360 expansion pack

Primochill Vue Red fluid

Corsair Graphite 600t (white)

When is the last time things worked.  What did you do from that moment to the next ?  Do other games run at 100hz ?  If so then it is a Fortnite issue.  Also make sure vsync is off.  Worst care scenario is to run DDU "Display Driver Uninstaller" in safe mode and clean and restart.  Now in normal mode install latest WHQL video drivers and let us know how Fortnite and what not.

I should have said. Before cloning my display to the capture card, it was able to work in borderless mode at 2560x1440 at 100hz. It behaves the same in every game as well not just fortnite. I will try doing a clean install of the nvidia drivers and setting everything up again.

I followed this tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eGSIy0CHrg

Yes a DDU just might solve things.  good luck my friend.

Would checking the "perform clean installation" in the nvidia driver installer do the same thing as using ddu and reinstalling the latest driver?

NOPE!  It tries to get rid of as much it can but it doesn't completely remove everything where there are zero traces of earlier drivers.  Checking the perform clean install simply puts your nvpanel settings to default.  It does remove the driver then installs new one but it is not completely removed.  This is where DDU kicks in.

I have used ddu and installed the latest drivers. I am not able to select any resolution above 1920x1080 in the nvidia control panel but i am able to select 3440x1440 at 100hz in the display settings menu. Is there a way I can make it 2560x1440? The "create custom resolution option is greyed out for me.

Hmmmmm why would it not let you use custom resolution ?  You sure you cant get it to work ?

I have tried all day. The only way I can get it to 2560x1440 is if I set DSR to 1.20x;1.78x in the nvidia control panel. Only then I can select 2560x1440 in windows display settings only not in nvidia control panel. That is when I have the issue with my games only being displayed at 60hz.

By any chance do you have your monitor drivers ?

I cant find drivers. I did load up a few games and even in 3440x1440 the game still doesn't run at 100hz. and fullscreen only gives me 1920x1080 at 100hz.
