Im testing some ram for a friend of mine who thinks the ram is causing him some crashes... and when i use memtest86+ and when i select start testing i get a window saying that my version of windows (8.1 Pro x64) limits the amount of RAM an application can use...

Why is this and can I bypass it?

use a lots of memtest windows. start with 3000 mb each and decrease it until you get like 20 mb memory left.

.having multiple windows of that program does not affect it's effectivenes.

That's strange. Is your system recognizing all of the available RAM, are any other applications using it? And are you certain you have the 64bit version installed.

I know that, but I just want to be able to let programs have free reign of how much RAM they can use so once I get my 16GB back in my system, programs wont have that limitation...

Yes, all is recognized, just what windows wants to keep in ram, and yes I am sure I have 64-bit.

EDIT: Windows sees all 8GB but I cant set Memtest to use more than 2GB...  But i am seeing on the MSDN website something about IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE and setting that will up the limit to 4GB as opposed to the 2GB per app limit
