5ghz is great for noisey enviroments for example if you live near lots of wireless routers like 15+ 5Ghz is great but if you have few around you then stick with 2.4Ghz for range

If you're looking for range, stick to the 2.4GHz band. The 5GHz band gives you better speed but a smaller range.

I found the ASUS RT-AC66U that is within my budget and it has what I need. Linus tested it on the video and it worked well.

P.S: One more thing, if I get it should I stick with ASUS' firmware or should I use dd-wrt or open-wrt?

Why are you getting an AC router do u have devices that use AC ?

If u really want an over powered router then go with the rt-n66u

Only reason to go with ddwrt if u want enhanced features but I'm sure u dont

The stock ASUS firmware is good IMHO. But alot of people like Merlin's firmware.

I'd suggest against open-wrt or dd-wrt, merlin in specifically made for ASUS routers and would most likely be a better option if you want 3rd part firmware.

15" MBP TB

AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB

I don't have any AC devices atm but I will probably get some this year so might as well.
