So I've had my PC for about 2 years now with an MSI X370 Gaming Plus motherboard, Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 1070Ti. My RAM has been the same 8GB Corsair RAM with the ability to run at a clock of 3000MHz, but the problem is that when I go into changing the frequency it doesn't change the frequency of the RAM and it stays at the stock frequency of something around 2193MHz or something like that. I have tried changing almost everything in the BIOS (can't remember what I haven't touched).

Another problem now is that I changed everything back to what it has mainly been for the past 2 years, booted back into Windows 10 and checked by RAM frequency again and now it's down to 1067MHz. I don't know what is happening here. They are in the correct DIMM slots and I cannot change the clock speed.

I am also unable to update the BIOS as the USB Drive I use will not show the BIOS update file downloaded from AMD's website. When I then leave the screen to install the BIOS update my PC then turns on and off again in about 10-20 second intervals and then eventually, after loading into the BIOS twice, finally goes back to Windows 10. I feel like there is something specifically wrong with my PC as I have not heard or read anyone else having the same problems.

I've been wanting to overclock my RAM for better performance gaming for a while now. My CPU is overclocked at 3.4GHz

Can anyone please help me out?

Thank you very much.

The stock frequency or SPD (Serial Presence Detect) speed on nearly every DDR4 (Double Data Rate) RAM module is 2133 MHz. Divide that double data rate in half and you get the 1067 you claim it is running at. That means it is running at its SPD speed and needs to be clocked.

I don't know how for your computer and RAM but I thought I'd share that information with you since you were claiming it was initially 2093. If I am correct, at least you know what your RAM is doing and what needs to be done. Hopefully that helps.

couple of questions...

1) is it 1 8gb stick or is it 2x4gb

2) what slot are they in? If they are not in the proper slots, then it will not work in dual channel mode.

3) what brand are they? (I need the exact model number)

CPU: 8600k @4.9  (1.39v) |  Cooler: NH-U14s | Mobo: Asus Strix z390i | Ram: Gskill DDR4 Trident Z 3600 8GB x 2 16-16-16-36

GPU: Gigabyte G1 1080 GTX | Case: Prodigy ITX | Fans: NH-A14, (exhaust) NH-A12, (intake) NH-A20 (intake)

Samsung EVO 1tb | Samsung EVO 512gb x2 | Intel ssd 128gb

PSU: Powerstation 500W

They are 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance LPX with model number CMK8GX4M2B3000C15

They are in slots A2 and B2 which are correct when following the manuals instructions.

Update:

My RAM is now saying it is running at 2800MHz and in Windows 10 in Task Manager and the application CPU-Z it says it's running at 1400MHz and 1399.2MHz respectively in dual channel. I would assume that the reading within Windows is for each card, that when when added gives the selected frequency within the BIOS as both sticks are in dual channel. I don't know what happened to change the frequency but it's at least running at what I set it to for once.
