Yes. If all you do is swap your CPU and mobo and you're running Windows 10, you can just connect everything back up and Windows will figure out the drivers by itself. If you have any problems, you can do a soft reset (reinstall Windows and lose your programs, but keep your files and get a list of what you'll need to reinstall) and that will solve them.

If you're running an older version of Windows, things get more complicated.

Yes and no.

You should always reinstall windows when doing this to avoid any immediate or future issues. When you do this just backup your files to an external storage device and once done reinstall your programs and copy over the files you have backed up. There are plenty of programs to assist you with this if you don't want to copy and paste yourself.

It will probably work... since windows 8, the windows detects hardware changes, and download new drivers... but... I don't advice you to do it, because it keeps a lot of sh*ty drivers on the drive... and stability can be compromised.

Anyway... a backup will not hurt you! :P

1 - backup the data to another drive.

2 - make the change

on failure

3 - clean install and transfer data from the backup

Hope it helps!
