Hello all, so I am trying to start up a Minecraft server (go ahead and cringe now) and I am trying to go through with port forwarding.  My network modem is a Motorola MB7420.  When I log in to the modems page through my browser instead of getting many of the advanced options, I just get status through the advanced tab.  So is there something I am doing wrong?  Or is my modem just bugged or something?

That's a cable modem ONLY, it doesn't do any port forwarding, it just converts coax to ethernet. You port forward in your router, not the modem.

my usual rant before i go on topic:

this is fine if it's for a few friends (read: friends, people you know and trust)

if it's a server that is public in any way, put that stuff in a datacenter.
