looking into upgrading, with some very specific needs...

So.. its one of those me threads again.. where nothing is good enough.

quick TL:DR: my desktop still honestly suffices for what i do with it, but i'm having some very specific issues, and i'm getting the craving to upgrade.

for reference (it's available on my profile) this is my current build:

- i7 4790k

- asus sabertooth Z97 Mk2

- 32GB DDR3 1600 corsair vengeance (yes, i actually needed that at some point)

- asus GTX970 strix

- fractal design define R5

- 240GB sandisk ultra II / 2TB WD Black

- corsair RM750 (80+ gold, 750W, does its job..)

- 2x 1440p 60Hz IPS displays

- be Quiet dark rock advanced C1

- some peripherals

Here's the bucket list:

- AMD Ryzen 3rd gen, not quite yet decided on R5 or R7.

- some huge tower cooler, i like tower coolers.

- a motherboard with some very specific requirements (see below)

- 16 or 32GB (as of yet undecided, i really dont need the 32GB anymore)

- corsair MP600 1TB SSD

the goal is quite simple:

i want to upgrade, honestly just for the sake of upgrading. i dont *need* the extra performance, but i'd prefer to get boot times to a minimum, i really dont wanna bother with the SSD/HDD combo anymore (hence the big SSD), and i'm just a cpu hog. i'm not quite yet planning on replacing the GPU, because i only really have one game that i cant max out reasonably.

as for the very specific requirements...

i'm a very picky person, that runs some very specific hardware and software, in very specific ways.

stuff i need on my motherboard:

- i *need* 6 rear USB ports at the very least

- i have this 4-port network card, that for thermal reasons doesnt like being near my GPU, so ideally i'd have a 4x (or bigger) slot at the bottom of my motherboard, that doesnt eat into the GPU's lanes.

- a motherboard with two decent LAN controllers would be a nice replacement for the quad NIC issue. (read: decent)

- as above mentioned, i'm looking at the corsair MP600, which implies that the huge heatsink needs to fit around the relatively tiny M.2 slot

- quietness. i'd be willing to modify the chipset cooler if it made things more quiet.

as for some stuff i dont care about:

- RGB. my computer is a black box under my desk.

- wifi.

- looks overall

what i'm making this thread for:

- I'm way too busy with work to keep tabs on which memory to pair with ryzen, and i really cant wrap my head around which motherboard to buy.

- I dont have a set budget, but i dont want to pay more for a product that isnt better. this makes motherboard choice REALLY difficult..

- I'm probably overlooking things.

any suggestions are welcome.
