Corsair AF120

Go to solution Solved by Aleks,

why are the sp ones better for the radiator?

Static pressure, basically it is the resistance of a system to airflow. The higher the static pressure. the more airflow you can get running through the radiator.

The corsair af120s look really nice and match the red and black color scheme of my upcoming build. A lot of people say that they are bad, but a lot of people say that they are good. I was hoping that both types of people might click on this topic and explain their reasons for liking or disliking the fan. I will be using the fans for pulling air through a corsair h100i for a (soon to be overclocked) 4770K.

Yep. They are excellent. Don't listen to the Noctua fanboys who say they don't blow a lot of air. They blow A LOTTT of air.They are VERY good. However, I would get the SP fans from Corsair because you are putting it on the radiator.

The Static Pressure fans are made specifically for situations where they will be put on something or very close to a part in your PC such as a radiator or filtered intake. They basically make sure the air can get through the case with obstacles in the way.

If you're going to be using them on a proper variable fan controller (i.e. the one included with the Asetek-based coolers) you can set them on a Silent profile which runs at around 1000 rpm and have them automatically ramp up when your CPU is under fire.

I actually have my rig set up this way where 2 of my 3 intake fans (2 SP120's and 1 AF120) are connected to my Kraken X40 fan controller via splitter and they just ramp up depending on the CPU temps.

So I should get 2 SP120s for my H100i and an AF120 for the rear case mount?

What splitter do you use and how do you set it up? BTW, do i even need a splitter, i can plug the two sp120s into cpufan1 and cpufan2 because there are two ports on the motherboard i am getting?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130737

but would the aio software pick it up? i dont know these things

You don't need to get a splitter, unless you want to do what I'm doing which is controlling your case fans with your CPU temp controller.

You plug the two SP120's into the Corsair pump, and the pump connects into the mobo's CPU_Fan1 header for power. I'm using a fan splitter because I only have my X40 running on pull config.

What is the CPU temp controller? what is the alternative?

And what do i put in the sysfan ports, and what software do i use to control those, is it the motherboard software?

Your setup would look like this:

2 SP120 Fans -> 2 H100i male fan headers

H100i female fan header -> mobo CPU_Fan1

H100i USB female header -> mobo USB2 male header

they are, tried both af and sp, I have my own preference and usually stay away from corsairs when it comes to fans.

Only Noctua fanboys.

*grunt*

I like cougar good sir, and I can tell you for my own purposes I don't like a fan that just blows air everywhere and creating air pockets inside my case.

I like dead quiet, good airflow and the ability to actually direct my airflow instead of letting the air blow everywhere inside like making popcorn - this requirements

are met with cougar fans.

so back to the point, when someone asks about corsair fans, i generally tell them to get something else unless they have their heart set on it - this is simply due to

the problem mentioned above: loud, airflow goes on drunken berserk rampage inside the case and for the price? you can easily find other set of fans to fill your needs.

why recommend sub-par when you can recommend something better, noctua "fanboys" feels the same (at least the ones I talked to) - why would they recommend

an item they don't like? unless you yourself have NOT tried noctua or other brand of fans, there's really no point in talking back about fan suggestion.

Check out the build: Used to be Obot, now Lilith

Shameless: Me
