Hello All

my current Computer spec

I7- 2600

motherboard - DH67BL Intel

16GB DDR 1333 MHZ

and Asus graphics card 1060GTX 6GB

as for drivers 2 SSD drives and 2 HDD drivers

power supply Antec 650W

I was given a motherboard of gigabyte GA-H87-HD3 ver 1.1

that has a CPU I5 4440 - i was thinking of ordering second hand I7 4790K

and my question is is worth while changing  my current Motherboard and CPU for or the gen 4 I5 or the gen 4 I7   ( if i buy it second hand ) that will cost me around 200 dollars Basically i would be using all of my current computes parts form  my current computer part form the CPU and motherboard  or just wait and buy the new AMD but for much more money

i know that between my current CPU I7 Gen 2 and between the I5 Gen 4 there is no big difference with Performance

Basically my computer runs games and sadly my current computer is starting to show its age with some of the new games

Thanks and all the best

the 4790k is an enthusiast part, and has an enthusiast price tag. You can opt for a 4770k, or even just a 4770 if the OC doesn't matter, since at stock it'll still beat a 2600. Then just overclock your ram and off you go, a nice upgrade.

Also, is your Antec PSU and earthwatts?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

no. That cpu will not be able to overclock on a h series chipset.

my brain saw 87 and defaulted to Z87, oops.

However, at this moment the best deal on a 4770 on eBay is beaten by a 4770k so on this particular listing I'd recommend OP go for it

You dont think its worth while going for the 4790K ?

Definitely not, especially on an H series board. The price premium for those chips is waaaay too high, especially when you can get a Ryzen 5 2600 for $150.

make sure to quote people so they see your responses.

Where are you planning on getting that from? if it's from overseas that 200$ price will skyrocket once it reaches Israel (assuming you live there), Though I agree with everyone else, the 4790K is unnecessary/overkill for an H87 board, try to find a 4770 for cheap

Quote or Tag people so they know that you've replied.

Very true _Syn_ i am form Israel :)

Ok so not to get I7 4790K but how about the I7 - 4790 ?

but again the thing is this is worth while spending money on a 4-5 year old CPU ??

or just to wait a bit longer a but a new Motherboard + CPU of the new AMD Ryzen gen 3 + new memory ?

because i only came to his idea when i got this motherboard with the i5 4440 for free so i thought id ask .

thanks and all the best

The K skus have higher boost clocks in that generation than their non k counterparts.

But it's unknown how well those motherboards will power the chips.

And you'll need aftermarket cooling.

i5-14600KF // 120x38MM Cooler Master AIO // B760i // 64GB DDR5 6000 // PNY RTX 5070 // Cooler Master NCORE 100 Max // Cooler Master V SFX-850 Gold // UWQHD AOC Display
