What storage device is better for storing Windows on?

Basically I'm thinking of doing a storage upgrade, but I'm not sure if I should go for an M.2 or a sata SSD. 

 

What I plan to store on it is simply Windows, a bunch of programs I do update monthly, and all my game clients. That's all no games only because 1tb anything SSD is like over $600 and I can't exactly afford that. 

 

So what do you think best suits my use case? Because tbh I don't know which is a better option it is important that I can download stuff a lot because I do that often with the programs I have.

You can also pick up a normal sata SSD for around the same price, it just has slower speeds. Also make sure your motherboard has an M.2 slot

That drive uses the sata protocol so it around the same speed as other 2.5 inch sata drives. The faster drives are the NVME drives which use the m.2 interface like this one.
