wifi extender not working

my tv is very far from the modem, on 1st floor (modem 2nd floor). i bought a wifi extender tplink tl wa855re and the tv speed is still too slow, 5-6mbps when modem is 25-30 mbps. extender is 1st floor middle way. i just dealt with it but i cannot watch 4k videos, is it the extender's problem? do u know a good extender for 90+% of the modem's speed?

 

also if i increase internet speed, e.g. to 50mpbs, will the tv speed also increase? i.e. does distance have a % multiplier effect on max speed, or distance gives cap on speed of the device no matter the modem's max speed?

For the extender to be some what effective it needs to be put in good range of your modem. So it gets a good WiFi signal. Also range extenders cut bandwidth by half, due to how they work.
