So one of my friends asked me to build him a new computer strictly for gaming. His budget is $2650. So I build him this wishlist

I didn't find the case and the power supply in the list but they are ok tho. The case is a bonus because it's free (it's a segotep Halo 6 plus) and the power supply has 750 watts and 80+ gold. The power supply is $50 and the rest of the $600 that I got left will go to the prices of my country. My question is , is it ok? Should I change something? I will definitely wait for and 3000 , but till then is it ok?

Is this in USD or CAD? This seems extremely overpriced.

@ISmokeAir What specific model is the power supply?

You could definitely do much better than that for $2650. I'd drop the i5 9600K and wait for Ryzen 3000 to come out, then go with something like the Ryzen 5 3600X ($249 6c/12t 3.8GHz base clock) or 3700X ($329 8c/16t 3.6GHz base clock). (Hell, maybe even a 3800X, 3900X or 3950X)

That 2080 is way overpriced. I wouldn't spend much more than $700 for one. Check out some of EVGA's offerings such as the EVGA RTX 2080 XC Ultra (https://amzn.to/2XATFks).

Is the Alienware monitor really necessary? There are other options (likely better options) that are a bit cheaper. (ASUS ROG STRIX XG248Q, BenQ ZOWIE XL2540)

I'd drop the 970 Evo Plus 1TB and get an 860 Evo 1TB (https://amzn.to/2REtLqE) and a 2 or 4TB HDD to go along with it.

I'm not familiar with ID-Cooling. I'd swap that AIO out for a Corsair H100i Pro (or RGB Platinum if he wants lots of RGB), or one of EVGA's CLCs.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

I'd personally wait for Ryzen 3000 but if you're friend needs one ASAP you can do a lot better especially if you're going through US retailers. We'd be able to help you more if we knew what country you're in and currency you use. But if it is USD and you're located in the US then here's what I would do, don't know about the monitor but I'm fairly certain you can get ASUS ones that are 1080p 240hz for less than $400. There are also cheaper 2080s on Amazon that PCpartpicker hasn't updated the prices on. Don't know much about that Chromaflow cooler either if it were me I would go for the Dark Rock Pro 4 but I didn't know if it was purchased already or not.

... With a 2650 budget?? Hold on a sec, let me play with things.

  • i7-9700K for a great gaming experience (Though Zen 2 will be a thing to watch for if he doesn't need it RIGHT NOW.)
  • Cooler, MOBO, and PSU all solid units to OC the 9700K.
  • Note a sleek all black look to the build. I think this will look VERY nice.
  • Plenty of storage on both NVMe SSD and storage HDD.
  • Beautiful EVGA XC Gaming 2080Ti
  • 27" 1440p 144hz 1ms G-Sync gaming monitor to put the pc elements to good use!

Thank you for all the replies. I will definitely wait for ryzen 3000 before I will buy the PC. Some of you suggested an i7 9700k and it costs $350 on Amazon , in Romania it costs $500+ so what I selected is the best option for now. I will see what ryzen has to say. The monitor is the cheapest one that has 240hz and g sync. To put in perspective the price for g sync monitors I will compare the model that I selected and the one that has free sync. The one with free sync is almost $150 cheaper. And this applies to all monitors. The motherboard is on of the best because it has most of the features of the z390 chipset and it is at a medium ish price. The PSU has 850watts and 80+ gold certification. The case is a free bonus because I will purchase a gpu a cpu and a mb. I might change the gpu but the difference are not that big and it liquid cooled so bonus points. The rtx 2080 TI is $500 more expensive so I can't afford that

Yikes! I would consider that pretty overpriced. (Though likely all parts are out there in relation to U.S. pricing.)

nVidia did unlock Freesync support on all of their GPUs, so really any decent Freesync monitor will work in some way with it. They have certain ones that they've 'certified,' but all can sync with an nVidia GPU now. I can't guarantee it will be as good an experience, but I haven't actually heard anyone say that it's not a working feature yet.

Also 240 is overkill in almost all cases. Even if you're looking for that FPS edge, most would feel a 144hz or 165hz refresh is extremely crisp. If AAA gaming is the goal, a 1440p monitor would be a better buy.

I can't speak to the pricing in Romania, but the Pro 4 is a pretty lightweight board in the z390 set. It does support a wide variety of RAM though. The step up to a Gaming X may be something look at. You can always reference the tier list to double check a piece you're looking at

850W is overkill on a single GPU build for sure, but will work. Not all gold units are a good buy, and again the (PSU) tier list is a great resource.
