Ok, so I'm fairly new to this whole pc building, when I say "new" I don't mean completely I just never had to put a pc together although I know all the parts. so I bought mt pc pre-built from micro center and I feel its time for an upgrade

Currently (post-upgrade)my pc stands with

Mobo: ASRock - b250m-HDV Micro ATX LGA1151

CPU: I5 - 7300 3.4 GHz

GPU: 1050TI

RAM: 8gb

PSU: some 400w PSU don't know the brand

My plan is to upgrade my PSU and GPU and RAM and add an SSD

So after the upgrade, it'll be

Mobo: ASRock - b250m-HDV Micro ATX LGA1151

CPU: I5 - 7300 3.4 GHz

GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 XC Gaming 6GB GDDR6

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB)

PSU: (need help here) EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W? (I've heard stories of this frying PCs whole and I want to avoid that at all cost as I wouldn't have money to replace an almost $400 dollar GPU let alone an entire pc)

So my Main concerns are can all that go together? (PC part picker says yes but also get a second opinion) and is that PSU enough/good enough to power my pc and not turn it into home fires?

I mean, it'll work, but what's your budget for upgrades? You can probably get much better upgrades.

For $600, you could build a whole new better system

You could change whatever u want

I5 7400 or i3 7300?

As for PSU, have you checked out the PSU tier list? I have it linked in my signature below, clock my PSU to see it

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

The 2060 and 1070 are evenly matched, and yeah it is. This is a build @LukeSavenije did in the discord, I used it, because I'm in a rush right now.

Ok, even better.

@Boinbo recommended a used 1070 in a prior parts list, used graphics cards are always a good idea imo. The 2060 is close to 1070 ti levels but is much more expensive, and your i5 may not be able to leverage all that GPU horsepower anyway.

I would say as others have pointed out: for $600 you can replace the CPU and Motherboard. Get a Ryzen 5 from the 3rd generation when they launch in a couple of weeks, and a cheap B450 motherboard.

If you get a motherboard with 4 ram slots, you can get an extra 8GB of ram (assuming your current setup is 2x4GB) and save some money on the RAM.

I wouldnt upgrade the PSU just to upgrade it, that is just wasting money. A 400Watt PSU should be fine for this system with a RTX 2060.

If you really just want to upgrade the GPU and ram, just do that. And save up for a new mobo and CPU later on. You can transfer the GPU and RAM over to a newer system later on.

Good luck!

The i5 7500 is not better than the Ryzen 5 1600. They are close, it would depend on the game. For newer titles that use more cores, the Ryzen's 6-cores would perform better than the i5 quadcore.
