I'm an Engineering Student at a UK University. I do a little bit of gaming on like, Minecraft, some PS2 emulation, some Dark Souls etc. I mostly use my PC for CAD, and have been struggling with working on complex parts.

My Specs:

Spoiler

Ryzen 5 1600x Stock Cooler
16gb 2133 MHz HyperX Fury DDR4
MSI Lightning GTX 770.
Corsair VS550 PSU
WD Green SD, Blue HDD
I'm on Win 10 Professional
I use Siemens NX11 for CAD
I use a 1080p tv as my monitor but will likely be buying 2x 1080p and a 4k monitor or similar set up at a later date

I find that normally, my system is pretty good for what I need. The only times it seems to slow down are on very large Facebook threads, which seem to tank all the devices I have, running PCSX2 at too high settings, and during CAD.
When modelling parts with a lot of faces or a lot of detail - say, a gear, the computer chugs, taking 10 seconds to simply rotate the camera or even a minute to do a simple extrusion.

I know that the Quadro lineup have a lot of GPU memory, and that they're used in professional cad workstations. Would it be worth me getting some form of used Quadro in order to help with this, or should I upgrade my 770 to some newer consumer GPU? Perhaps I could run multiple in SLI? I have around £100 - £150 to spend.

LTT's video a year ago basically recommended a RX 580, but I'm concerned that that card will have the same issue due to the large number of faces (1000+) on some parts.

This. If the software you're using for 3D uses Cuda acceleration, look to something like eBay for a 1060 6GB and if OpenCL acceleration is available, go for the RX 580.

You should overclock your ram, Ryzen really prefers higher ram speeds to operate better. Improving your core to core latency should make your multitasking a lot easier.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Personally, I'd say it's your CPU that is the bigger issue. That said, install MSI Afterburner and check what it says on the CPU and GPU load.

Yeah, check for cpu/gpu usage during cad rotation.

I'm using a K2200 at work with Catia and while it chuggs sometimes, I also have half a car open all the time. The card goes to 100% when rotating pretty much. CPU not so much...

What program are you using and do you have Cuda acceleration enabled?

Edit: at my home I also use a GTX770 with i5 2500k with Catia and while I don't make any stressful pieces there I've never had any slowdowns either.

Would it be worth buying 2400MHz or higher frequency RAM?

you can overclock yourself first and see what frequency you're able to get, since that's cheaper and less hassle. If you're stuck at 2133, then buy a new kit of something good like 3000
