Combatibility: Ryzen 5 3600x with Asus Prime x470

Turns out it's a whole crazy ordeal where you have to supply model number, serial number, some from of proof of purchase of the mother board and CPU you're trying to use. Along with pictures of both motherboard and CPU. I may just find someone who has a cpu I could borrow or take it to a computer store and see what they think and how long it would take them to get it updated.

Unless you can find someone to do it for free then you might do better to find cheap AMD CPU (like one they would send you).  I can't remember which one it is, but they aren't expensive and probably cheaper than an hour of labor at a shop.

Thats what I'm thinking I'll do, if you remember the name of the CPU let me know.

AMD - A6-9500

Amazon sells it for $50.

Or find one used.  There is probably someone that did the same thing and are selling the CPU.

And there won't be an issue with the CPU being so old that it won't let me update the motherboard BIOS ( PC Builder Level: 2/10 here, I know very little)

You shouldn't have any problem on an X470 board.

To clarify for future knowledge, as long as the CPU, no matter how old, is compatible with the Motherboard the PC will work, with varying degrees of a bottle neck but it will work?

Well, I'm not even sure we can say that anymore.  Generally, what you said is correct with the first two generations of the AM4 socket, but X570 boards though physically compatible will not support first gen Ryzen so that AMD - A6-9500 may not work either.

Awesome Thanks! I just ordered one, though I can't seem to find if it has a CPU fan. Should I order a cheap on just in case or just wait to see?

If you're gonna order the new Ryzen CPU then that will come with a fan you can use.
