I recently installed my cooler master Masterfan pro 140 into my new pc, but the fan only twitches and the center gets really hot. Is it a dead fan or am I doing something wrong?

Also, the back spaces for fans in my case seem to have the wrong screw size for the stock fan. is there a reason for this?

could be something blocking the fan make sure there is nothing n the way preventing the fan from spinning try spinning it with your hand or something

screw size wont do anything unless you somehow screwed through a wire or your screws are blocking the fan

also recheck the wires and make sure you plugged it in correctly

if no of these work then its probably a dead fan

Yeah, I spun it with my hand a little, the magnets were on. I was referring to the 2nd line as a different problem, only the stock fan will fit in the back. Thank you!

What fan header is the fan plugged into? It seems like the fan isn't getting enough power to start spinning.

How are the case screws holes the wrong size? Are they smaller than the screws?

The header is plugged into CPU_FAN2/WP, and the screw holes are too large to fit the fan.

How are the holes too large? They just need to be larger than the screw threads and smaller than the screw head. The fan screws go through the case and tap into the fan frame.

What case are you using?

Try raising the fan speed for the header in the motherboard settings.

I'm using the Carbide Spec-04, the screw holes are too large for the screws that fit the fans. If I used the smaller screws, the fan would fall out. If I used the larger screws, I wouldn't even be able to fit the fan on them.

What kind of screws are you using? Standard fan screws are self-tapping. The first time can take a bit of force since the threads aren't cut into the fan frame yet.

I'm using the long fan screws that came with the case. There's also other screws that fit, but it's the wrong way and it's way larger than the holes in the fan.

The long fan screws are only for mounting fans at the front of the case where the screws thread into the case and not the fan.

For the other fan mounts in the case, use the shorter fan screws that come with the fan or case.

They should be like this:

What do you mean by the screws being the wrong way?

As in the screws are too short to go through the fan and then the chassis.

The screws are supposed to go through the chassis and then thread into the fan.
