My SSHD is loud

star_pilot475

So I’ve had an SSHD for a solid 8 months now. It’s a Seagate Firecuda 2TB 2.5 inch drive. I was using it with my PS4, but this week I switched it over to my pc, figuring it could help performance there. I’ve had the case side panel off and I’ve been noticing that the drive makes a very loud clicking noise. Is this normal? Or is my drive dying?

Sshd are honestly useless. Either buy a SSD or a HDD

I was thinking of buying a 120gb ssd for a boot drive and then just using the SSHD as a steam library but, if it’s making this clicking noise should I be worried about it dying?

Clicking or chirping?

If its the click of death back everything up and replace it.

Definitely clicking. I’ve got a warranty with Seagate. I should call 'em up.

Grab a 250/500GB ssd for boot, I prefer NVME for space within the case, and add a 2TB HDD. Not sure how

much storage you need

Honestly I haven’t even used 500gb of my full 2tb on this drive yet, so I have very little storage needs.

Edit: my mobo doesn’t actually support m.2 or even sata 3 so...

Honestly, the best thing to do is RMA the current drive and use the refurbished one they send you.  No monies.

But if you want to spend monies, taking into consideration your needs, I'd buy a 500GB SSD and be done.  Sell the SSDHDHDHDD thing.

That’s true. A friend offered me a 120gb 850 Evo for free. Maybe I’ll ask him if he still has it.

The Adata or the 850 EVO is fine, I've used Adata for boot/OS a few times over the years. No issues.  Obviously I use Samsung drives in my personal machine.
