Keyboard moding

dwl2234

Can I take a USB 3.0 Hub, cut it open, take the PCB of hub and place it in the Keyboard internally wire the Keyboard to USB hub and connect the Keyboards USB cable to the HUB? Intent of it is to make some USB ports in Keyboard kinda crazy, but is it feasible? Can the so obtained ports be 3.0 provided we connect the Keyboard to 3.0 female.

If I am not clear, what I want to do is, place pcb of USB 3.0 hub in keyboard, internally connect keyboard to usb 3.0 hub, wire keyboard external cable to usb hub. so as to make usb female holes in the keyboard.

Solution

Get a cheap usb hub, break off the housing and tape it to the bottom of your board

Then prop the feet up and call it good

i7 6700k, GTX 1080, Crucial MX 300, Maximus VII Hero, WD Blue, 16 GB RAM

finished product would be great aesthetic, if we can see a 3.0 USB ports on Keyboard, dont need to move our lazy ass (atleast stretch our arms), Nice Mechanical Keyboards comes for 15-25 bucks, to get this additional features we need to put in 30-40 bucks extra and get a Coarsair 550. Imagine the aesthetic dude and the value it give kind of...??

Use these, to attach the 2 cables to look clean, screw soldering

Of course, you are bridging the connection.

Test on a cheap keyboard and usb hub before touching an expensive keyboard

dude while doing so, can the usb 3 hub cable be replaced with keyboard cable ? As keyboards are generally V2 cables slow ones, will there be any materialistic difference? like kind of wires used in usb 3 hub cable n keyboard cable?? or can we proceed?

Look at the specificiation.  The short answer is probably no, the circuitry is likely incompatiable.

Don't attempt this kind of project without learning basic wiring first.
