My PC freezes (no blue screen, just freeze) frequently during gaming. It also happens when my I idle my PC. This usually happens 30 min - 3 hours into the session. When it happens, I have to force shut down my computer and start it back up.

Can someone give me advice on diagnosing the root cause? I'm using the following hardware:

  • 8700k
  • Windows 10 Home
  • Intel Optane 900P 480GB
  • 1080 TI
  • 32 GB RAM
  • Maximus X Hero (Wi-FI)

What's your Motherboard? Maybe the 8700k isn't compatible, it's not a good CPU/MOBO pairing, or maybe your bios isn't up to date?

Added motherboard to main post. Thanks for pointing this out!

No problem.Your motherboard is compatible, so it might be bios. Otherwise, it could be a GPU issue.

Seems like my bios a tad out of date (12/21/17). Hopefully this is the root cause!

Thanks for the tip.
