I want to use my own router with verizon fios but the router that verizon gives you is also the modem and without it TV won't work, so how can I use my own router (TP-Link Archer C7) using the verizon router as the modem.

See if you can put your modem into bridge mode, then you still leave your modem and now you can use your router.

do you know how to disable wifi on the verizon router and just use it as a modem so I don't have conflicting ips and such

Can you access your router's settings in your browser? You have to use your modem's ip. Try finding your modem's ip using ipconfig in a command prompt. Then type the default gateway into your browser, then you should be able to configure your settings. I can't really help you since i'm not familiar with your modem. Of course, this is what I did on my AT&T modem, so it may not work for you.

  • 1 year later...

I used my own router with fios, the fios guy set it up for me. Basically we have the fios modem/router and then we plugged in my Asus Black Diamond into the fios router and then changed the router ip from 192.168.1.1 to something like 192.168.4.1 and all my router settings were still there like my SSID and Passwords. The wifi on the fios router will automatically disable.
