RAM trade

Hi there 

 

Currently I have 4x16GB of RAM at 3200Mhz. It's RED LED too!

 

Wanted to trade that for:

 

4x8GB of RAM at 4500Mhz and it's the Corsair Vengeance LPX standard black.

 

I was thinking if I upgrade to Ryzen I'd have much faster RAM.

 

Or I can get 2x16GB at 4000Mhz for £100 less than it costs to buy the 4x8GB at 4500Mhz.

 

Opinions?

It's not like you can run 4000+ on current Ryzen CPUs anyway, dont see even Zen 2 to do more than 4266 with rubbish timings following AMD's track record in fixing broken things. I'd just keep the 3200 for now until we know how Zen 2 reacts with memory

32gb ram at 4500mhz? I don't think that's happening. I've bought a 3466mhz 2x16gb Corsair kit for my upcoming zen2 build, and I'd say that is more reasonable. x570 Taichi can do up to 4666mhz, but it's definitely talking about single rank kits at 8 or 16gb. We'll be lucky to reach 4000mhz on 32gb.

 

If I were you, I'd only be going as far as 3466/3600 on 2x16 or 4x8 to play it safe. That's what I've done anyways.

Aye. I had Ryzen 2700X and I had the same memory running at 3200Mhz. I was hoping for it to reach 4000Mhz on at least 2 sticks if I had 2X16GB, which I can buy now.

On current gear you'd have an impossible task getting 2x8GB stable at 4000MHz. 

 

But if you're talking about the future then that seems much more likely with the leaks we've heard and what G.SKILL showed at Computex.

That's why I wanted faster RAM. Computex proved it's possible.

I'm a little dubious of what they displayed not knowing if they were stable timings or not.  They showed a 2700X on a Crosshair VII board that was probably extremely binned and possibly only stable enough to boot.  

 

Still hopeful though!
