Hmm.. can't say I've ever seen Fortnight aside from a few pictures. Is there any benefit to you running more than 60fps? I'm sure there's a way to set a limiter (vsync too) in the game options. It's possible that while you have your graphics card pushing out 200+ frames per second, you're causing it to heat up more and if it thermal throttles at all you'll notice a spike where your frames drop. If you set your fps to a static 60 you might get better results.

Try rolling update back. if this has suddenly started, its more than likely its driver causing this. If its on single game, then it might be that game being updates.
