Hello!

So i tried to login to get help and it turns out i already have an account, i just never used it lol.

Anyways, not even all troubleshooting videos ive watched from Linus over the years could help me with this problem im having.

Last month i got a new mobo+cpu+memory and i was short on money to buy a gpu so i waited to buy it this month. I got an ASUS Prime B450M Gaming/BR (i think this version is produced only here in Brazil but im pretty sure its the same as the ASUS Prime B450-Plus but with only one PCI-e slot), a Ryzen 5 2600X and 16GB (2x8) Hyperx 2666mhz and i was using my old GTX 960 2GB from Zotac up until today. Last week i ordered a Galax GTX 1660Ti and it arrived today, i installed it and... it didnt work. No video, nothing. The fans (from the cpu, case and gpu) are running, the system beeps once (which is normal) but after that nothing happens. I tried a different monitor, a different cable, different outputs, still nothing. So i went back to my 960 and everything worked again. My PSU is a 500W 80+ from Cougar.

So i was pretty sure i got a faulty gpu and emailed the store about a possible RMA. Since its friday i wont hear back from them until monday i decided to do a few more tests. I went to a friend's house and tested the card on his computer and it worked flawlessly! So we started thinking what could be wrong with my system and we tried the following things:

1- Double, triple, quadruple checked every single cable

2- Tried to turn it on without memory, with only one stick, with two sticks (when we tried without memory it beeped differently indicating there wasnt any memory - which is expected but still no video)

3- Cleared the cmos

4- Removed the battery for a few minutes with the pc off and psu unplugged

5- Removed all peripherals and HDDs/SSDs

6- Tested his PSU connected to my GPU (we jumped his PSU to power it on)

7- Went back to my video card, uninstalled the driver using DDU.

8- Updated the BIOS

The only thing we didnt try was connecting the display to the motherboard since it didnt make sense because a ryzen 2600x doesnt have an igpu.

After all this, i still have the same problem. The system simply doesnt post with the new video card connected. No video, the keyboard and mouse dont light up but the beep code is totally fine. With my old GTX 960 its working fine, im using it right now to write this.

The only other relevant info i can add is about my keyboard and mouse: when i turn it on with my old video card the keyboard lights up the NumLock, Caps and ScrollLock lights all at once as soon as i press the power button, after that all of them turn off and then only NumLock turns on, after that my mouse turns on and by that time im in windows (or bios) already so i can just start using the PC. This is what happens every time i turn on the PC. With the new video card connected, all 3 lights on the keyboard light up and they stay on. They dont turn off and the mouse lights are also turned off the whole time. When we tried using my friend's mouse and keyboard (both logitech), they dont even turn on any lights.

Im sorry if i wasnt clear enough in some parts, as you can probably guess english is not my first language.

If i send the card to RMA, they will just test it and see that it works (like it worked on my friend's pc) and they will just send it back to me saying the card is fine. The problem isnt the card. But the problem isnt my PC either since it works with my old card!! I have no idea what to do, any help is welcome. Thank you!

Have you tried using your friend's PSU to power your entire system?

The whole system, no. We just connected his 8pin PCI to my GPU, jumped his PSU and turned on my system using my PSU

If possible, ask your friend to give you his PSU and try powering your system using it.

Alright, i will ask him tomorrow. But if the problem is my PSU, it would have worked with his PSU connected to my GPU, no? In the meantime, is there anything else i could try?

Alright, quick update: i went to his house again and connected his PSU to my whole system and it worked. So the problem was my PSU all along. I feel dumb for not testing that but oh well... Do you have any recommendation on what PSU i can buy? Im thinking about buying the corsair cx550m, is that enough?
