Cpu upgrade time. Can I steal some advice

So I’m quiet new to pc gaming (console gamer mainly) and I’m trying teach myself how to make games on UE4.

my setup is

i5 7500

16gb ram (2x8 fury x)

Newly fitted rtx 2060

m.2 500gb ssd

1tb Hdd

im pretty sure I’m cpu bottle necked. It’s my next part to focus on. I can’t see a huge difference between the i7 6700k and 7700k I’m tempted by Ryzen 7 2700x because of the price but I know that requires an new motherboard too. Or do I wait for Ryzen 7 3000 series?

Any help is is much appreciated. And i apologise for any misunderstandings I have. This seemed the best place to come an help my learn an fill in the huge gaps in my knowledge.

For the Ryzen Cpu you will need an entirely new board and ram. The 7500 should be sufficient but i could be wrong. Run a benchmark with msi afterburner overlay on. If cpu is maxed while gpu is not you are bottlenecked. Try a few different benchmarks. Depending on gpus utilization percentage youlk have an answer on whether its worth an upgrade.

Well if you can hold out a few months I’d wait on ryzen 3000.

you could pick up a ryzen 1600 + B450 board like the tomahawk or gaming pro carbon for the meantime to bridge you over till then. I’m not 100% on performance difference between your current cpu and the 1600

Keep your current setup. If you feel like upgrading to the ryzen 3000 when it launches thats pretty viable.

Also if you really enjoy technology and find linus (and friends) content enjoyable, watching those videos even if its just while you eat will help you learn alot. Between that, building and upgrading your rig, the countless hours youll naturally spend troubleshooting and researching , those gaps of knowledge will be filled in in no time. Especially if you have prior history in messing with electronics and software etc. If you find it enjoyable ypull have all that in no time. I mean i certainly dont know everything but my interest has carried me a long way.

The bottleneck you experience heavily depends on whether the title is GPU or CPU bound. Your current CPU is perfectly capable of handling most games at 1080p 60hz. You may experience a substantial bottleneck at 1440p and 4K in some titles, especially in CPU-bound games such as Grand Theft Auto V or The Witcher 3.

Thank you for everyone’s help. I had tried checking msi afterburner and my cpu was around 96-100% I checked another website: https://pc-builds.com/calculator/

that said my cpu wasn’t ideal for my set up.

From what you all say I’ll stick with mine for a little longer and check to see if Ryzen 3000 is worth a shout. Wasn’t expecting I’d need new RAM for AMD. That seems odd
