Too bad for a bite plate?

Anyone else here have to wear a bite plate? I'm only 23 and found out I have already ground down 1/3 of my tooth mass. So I got one, no problem wearing it but I'm worried it's not tough enough. Week or 2 of wearing it and I already have worn rough spots on it and teeth imprints. I'm worried in a mounth I'll wear it through. Anyone else have this issue?
