Thats what i thought but it doesnt recognize the drive when im on the tool

It's not going to treat the windows USB as a flash drive, you can use any other flash drive to make the new USB.

I have a really old win 10 (official) key and when i use it the os is so old that it freezes during updates and stuff. Anyway, i wanted to put the updated os on it but it keeps saying that the writes are locked. Any way i can wipe it or override it?

What writes are locked? You can just make a new windows 10 USB using microsoft's tool, then input the key you already have after installing the latest version of the OS.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

No, you have to use a new flash drive with their tool, but you can just reuse the key
