8 pin to molex?

xRin

Very soon my partner is upgrading there gpu and giving me there asus dual 1070, however i don't have a 8 pin connector for it. I looked alot online at some reddit threads and everyone was saying to buy a new power supply. I cannot afford a new power supply and won't for awhile. Currently i am using a evga 750ti oc ftw its being powered by a molex to 6 pin connector, so i was wondering if i can just get a molex to 8 pin connector to do the same thing with the 1070. I have had no issue with the molex adaptor on my 750 ti in the year i been using it even with everyone saying they catch fire etc. this also won't be permanent and i will be buying a new power supply within 6 months.

Specs:

i7 7700k

gigabyte B250-HD3P

x-power gtx 580 light

8gb ddr4-2400

It would work, but only if the 12v rail has enough power to drive the gpu. My only point of concern is that the molex cables usually aren't made for such heavy load, so they could melt or something. But a reasonable power supply which can handle the 1070 and the rest of your hardware is definitely a good idea..

yeah I would definitely recommend a 80+ rated one. I use the corsair vs650 and it has never let me down (-:

The cpu is also connected via a adaptor because it required a 8 pin so i had to find out a 4 pin to 8 pin ???‍?
