Advice on Basic Laptop

I'm looking for laptop advice.  My sister is going back to school and asked me for help picking something, but I know very little about laptops.

We're from the US, her budget is USD700 (stretch to 800), primary use is basic school and office work, preference for Windows 10 and high battery life, portability is desired but no specification on max size, gaming is a non-issue, prefer numpad but not a deal killer if it doesn't have one.
