I've assembled a desktop build. I want someone else to check it before I buy it. I'm mainly aiming for a gaming build. Is there anything I should add, remove, or change. I'd like to stay around my current price.

The Hyper T2 is worse than the included stock cooler for the 2700x, ditch that and the thermal compound unless you need that for later.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

  • You don't need a sound card, don't worry about that, your motherboard has audio already and it will be just fine, even if you are an audiophile.
  • Also, it's 2019, you shouldn't really have a need for an optical drive but if you think you do then go for it, just consider finding a cheaper one. Remember to consider the use-case of this, are you really going to be using discs? Are you really going to be watching Blu-Ray discs on this system? Think about it.
  • I would also say that investing in good headphones is better than going for a full sound system but that's, again, up to you, but I often find that noise-canceling and good up close audio and a built-in mic is better than a good stereo system and a mic, especially in gaming.

I'd say go for the WD Blue M.2, or if you have some extra cash from removal, even a Samsung M.2 or even NVMe drive for your storage.
To expand on this I personally recommend grabbing a cheap small SSD for just Windows and nothing else, like my Sandisk SSD Plus (120GB, $25), and assigning your home folder to your 3TB drive using a registry edit.
This keeps a small SSD for Windows 10 and your apps (120GB is plenty space, my installation takes up 42GB with Windows and Apps) and gets you fast and isolated speeds during updates and even simultaneous app and system updates. You can then use the aforementioned 500GB WD M.2 drive for your games, giving you great storage and maximum performance. Finally, your 3TB drive will automatically store all of your files, so you don't have to worry about your Windows drive filling up.
This is how I set up my friend's system for hyper-effective future-proofing and almost maximum performance, including in video editing if you get into it.

I agree with this. If you really want a better cooler, toss in the money for a quality Noctua NH-U12S or something.

Good find but you might consider just cheaping out for a good 60Hz. Up to you

Besides that, good build choices!

The 9600K will outperform the 2700x in gaming loads. Dropping the RAM to 3000MHz is the sweet spot for some additional savings. I bumped up the SSD to 500GB this way you can at least run a few games off of it along with the OS. I dropped the thermal paste and switched the cooler. I dropped the sound card (really not needed, especially that one) and bumped down the wifi adpater (it's still a good performer but much less expensive). I bumped up the GPU to the 2080 since it was only a little more after the savings from all of the above. It's still a little more than your original build, so if you want to drop back down to to the 2070 you picked, you'd have a savings and the total price would be $1982.36.

  • Would My Motherboard be able to connect both speakers and head phones?
  • I have an optical drive selected because I have a couple disc games. I know that I can buy them on steam though. I just don't want to sell the discs and buy again on steam.
  • I though that you needed thermal paste? Do you not need it?

Here's what I got after changing some things. Any other changes?

Only if you want really high-end stuff like Thermal Grizzly, otherwise the stock paste that comes bundled with the AMD cooler is sufficient

Get the G430, it has both USB 2.0 connection & 3.5mm jack. The speakers you can just plug into the motherboard while the headphone on the USB or audio jack at the front of the case or wherever convenient for you

connect speakers to motherboard rear I/O, then headphones to speaker or front panel audio connector.

you can get an external disc drive, then you can use it on any rig.

cooler already has thermal paste.

He's listened to quite a few things:

He went with @DaJakerBoss's suggestion to go with the WD Blue SSD, and to use a Noctua cooler instead.

He went with my suggestion to drop down to 3000MHz RAM for some savings and to drop down the Wi-Fi adapter to the TP-Link adapter for more savings.

He dropped the thermal paste and the sound card as multiple people suggested.

So.... how is he not listening?

It's looking a lot better. I'd still recommend the 9600K for a gaming build for the same price as it's able to push higher frame rates, especially on that 144Hz monitor.  That would be my only note at this stage of the build.

There is no reason to get that cooler, especially in an ATX case. Also it will struggle with temps if you try any overclocking on the 2700X. An Arctic Freezer 34 Esports Duo would be better for the same money.

If you are just gaming though I would go with the R5 2600/X although an Intel cpu will push higher fps for a 144Hz monitor with a suitable gpu.

If you are sticking with AMD then I would go with the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC which has wifi built in, or for $5 more than the cost of that Asus board and TP Link adapter you can get the ASRock X470 Taichi which is one of the best boards you can buy. Should be more than good for a 12 core later down the line.

Here's an idea:

At your budget with gaming in mind, I'd grab an unlocked intel CPU.

The AORUS PRO WIFI is a sexy high end board, which eliminates the need for your wifi adapter.

I opted for RGB in the build. You could let it go nuts, or hold it on a color to match the MOBO's backlight.

I really like this AIO and Case combo. It keeps your CPU cool, and looks cool doing it. (Put the radiator on the top grating.)

Since you are spending good money, you might as well get the best out of it. I included an RTX 2080.

To use the 2080, I included a nice 1440p 144hz monitor, and kept a smaller 1080p side monitor for your in game browsing use.

I dumbed down the peripherals a bit, to personal taste, but feel free to do whatever you want there.

  • I changed the mother board to the B450 Gaming Carbon Pro AC. It has on board wireless WiFi?
  • I changed the CPU cooler. Is it a better cooler than the Noctua I had?
  • I only intend to purchase one monitor. I probably wont get the 144hz monitor either.
  • I'd prefer not to use water cooling.
  • I'm not too crazy about RGB.
  • I'd prefer to stay with an AMD CPU. I'll also be doing some non gaming stuff.
  • I'm fine with the 2070.

Yes that board has onboard wifi.

The Arctic cooler will perform better yes. The Noctua one you had is really intended for a low profile case i.e HTPC where space is limited.
