NAS for photos, files, and backups | Synology DS218+ vs DS718+

Hello all!

See my original post over on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeServer/comments/bjwbgj/a_nas_for_homepersonal_use_for_photos_computer/

I've decided on Synology, but am unsure whether to go with the DS218+ or the DS718+. I will be using 2 WD Red 6TB running in RAID1 and will eventually add a cache (Note: I will be shucking a WD Element and using the WD Red drive in it). There is a $110 price difference between the 2 NASes. I love the DS718+ but hate the price. I've been looking online for it at a cheaper price (even if it's open-box/refurbished) to no avail, and for the first time in my life, eBay has the item for more expensive than Amazon...

NOTE: I will be primarily using macOS and iOS to access my photos and files from the NAS while on the go. The NAS will also be connected to a 1Gig Ethernet line.

Any recommendations?

R.
