Hey there people.

 

My friend asked me to re-install windows on his laptop. And I'm trying to do that.

Here's the problem. When I'm trying to enter bios, I immediately get a message which asks me to " enter CURRENT password ".

I think Bios is locked/password protected and he doesn't know the password. I tried resetting CMOS by removing battery and unplugging laptop from any power source. Waited for a hour or so and nothing changed, it still asks for a password.

Good thing this laptop has handy dandy boot option with ESC key, Tried installing Windows 8 via USB stick and it fails, it says it encounters a problem and needs to restart. 

And another question, laptop's CD/DVD drive just doesn't read some DVD/CD discs.

It doesn't load most of them or it just shows that CD is blank. Is there a way to fix that?

So, let me get this straight. You can't access the BIOS because it has a password, but it still lets you boot into the OS you want to re-install over?

Yeah. When laptop is booting up first screen shows two options.

F2 - Enter Setup ( Bios )

ESC - Popup menu. It lets you to decide from where you want to boot. It gives a list of available options. CD/DVD drive/ USB stick/ HDD and etc.

Windows 7 64 bit is still on HDD and it's still bootable and working. But my friend wants Windows 8.

And he has just a lot of shit in his HDD and probably some viruses. We can compare his pc to someone's grandmother, full of ad apps and useless other stuff.

you should try doing a chat with asus https://secure.livechatinc.com/licence/1792571/open_chat.cgi?groups=0

they might be able to give you the master unlock code for the bios and get you going. Trying wont hurt now will it? just be sure to let them know you are the owner of said laptop
