Could be some real damage or like erasing matte cover or something else?

Alcohol should be fine, but I've also read that it could damage the surface coating on some displays. So to be really sure, read what your monitor's manual says.

The matte cover is a plastic sheet, should not erased easily.

Alcohol is one of recommended cleaners for monitors.

It evaporates quickly, you can turn on the monitor in 5 seconds.

Yes nice post, he should be ok.  Me personally I would use water on that matte cover.

There's a plastic layer on top of the display called polarizer, it could be matte or clear.

In some rare case the plastic can shrink or crumble, but can easily replace, just like you replace a tinted car window.

Ideally you should use nothing more than a damp cloth. LCD screens, unless purposely made with a glass cover, have a porous surface meaning liquids can leach into the screen.

 

Best to just use a damp cloth, forget cleaning products.
