CPU bottlekneck

So i've built my new pc which has asus 1060 3gb, ryzen 5 2600, 8 gb of ram, and asrock fatality b450. So thing is,i think my cpu bottleknecks. For example i play AC Odyssey and it recommends me to play it on high graphics, but i only get 30-50 fps and the game even crashes sometimes. gpu's and cpu's tempetatures were fine all the time. Do you have some advice?

Have you tried other graphics settings?

Yes, i did. I tried on low, medium. It got higher a bit. I only get 60+ fps in the plain fields, and in the cities i cant even get to 55.

Also, your RAM is on the light side, both on the GPU and System.  Have you monitored both during gameplay?

A Ryzen 5 2600 is by all means sufficient to use a GTX 1060 3GB to it's full potential, you're not being CPU Bottlenecked.

 

What is happening is that AC: Odyssey is an extremely demanding game optimized for Intel, it eats VRAM and RAM to the bunches and I'm guessing you're running your system memory in single channel which makes matters worse.

 

You should find a balance on your in game settings.

AC:Origins and Odyssey are both CPU+memory benchmarks. You can downgrade resolution scaling and graphics settings to help with GPU and VRAM, but nothing can compensate for sheer use on CPU and memory.

 

Your CPU's fine. If it's not, pretty much all older gaming PCs wont be either.

 

Your memory most likely isnt. My desktop runs around 9-11GB easy (though havent accounted for background tasks) in the game. Also low frequency + single channel leads to low transfer rate and high latency, on Ryzen specifically slow infinity fabric to further increase latency inside the CPU. Very big trouble here.

We don't know it's clocks neither if it's single or dual channel because you won't tell us.

 

But working out of the assumption it's a low end single stick, like 2133/2400 on single channel then the memory configuration is your system weakest link for this game alongside the nowadays considered "small" VRAM buffer of 3GB your GTX 1060 has.

They're saying 2 things actually.  Amount of RAM is light, 8GB is not enough.  Also, single channel is bad.

 

When you monitored your system RAM usage, what was it at?

 

Are you running single or dual channel RAM, that;'s important as well.

well, i run the single channel RAM. Its frequency is 3200 mhz.

Buy another stick of that 8GB 3200.  Run in Dual Channel mode.

 

Then you'll see your GPU may be okay or look to upgrade that as well.  2600 is a fine CPU, leave that alone.

I agree that a second RAM stick is in order. That will at least ensure your Ryzen is giving its best. AC Odyssey is giving much more powerful GPUs a run for their money. It's both grand scale and the optimization is not great.

At 1080p high settings, you may actually be seeing good performance out of the 1060 3GB at 30-50 in terms of its capabilities. 1080p Ultra is still tough to maintain for 2070s currently on this title.
