Windows is stupid

Go to solution Solved by NunoLava1998,

Solution is using WinFromSetupUSB version 1.8. Rufus didn't work, UUI didn't work, but WinFromSetupUSB worked.

I'm trying to install Windows 2000 SP4 on a Eee PC 1005HA (Atom N280 (1.66GHz 1c/2t), 1GB DDR2, probably GMA graphics) just for fun.

However, the laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD reader, so I use Rufus to write the Windows 2000 .iso I have to my USB.

It boots up just fine and gets to the 'Press ENTER to install Windows 2000' screen. I press enter, it loads some files but then it says that it couldn't find the EULA.

Rufus copied every single file in lowercase instead of uppercase, so i changed 'eula.txt' to 'EULA.TXT' and it still wouldn't budge.  According to the internet, this is about how the system drive is formatted and that it must be done by MSDOS/Windows. Tried that; no dice. What should I do? I'm installing through a USB, and I set BIOS to configure the hard drive and USB as IDE.

The exact error message is:

Windows 2000 Server Setup

=======================

Setup cannot find the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).

Setup cannot continue. To quit, press F3.

Its 50/50 on the thread so I'm not sure, maybe try a portable DVD drive to USB?

This is a problem with Rufus and not windows. Some linux OS's can have problems with it too.

Try uui.

Also you will likely need to install the ATA drivers if windows does not see your systems HDD.

The HDD is set to IDE compatibility mode and it works just fine. With AHCI (default mode) ofc it doesn't detect anything.

I had already tried UUI and it didn't work but I tried it again with both DD mode and Unlisted Linux ISO (GRUB). DD mode failed miserably and Unlisted Linux ISO (GRUB) failed miserably.

The Windows options are for Vista and up.

It's installing Windows 2000 FROM a USB drive, not to one.

I'd get a DVD to USB drive, but unfortunately the cheapest one around here is ~30€, which is way too expensive for just messing around.

Did you try the windows vista option?

I really don't think w2k would like being installed from a Flash drive. 2k likely lacks drives in the installer to install from a flash drive.

You could do a network install. Also is the iso file you made good?

It is good. I didn't try the Vista option however.

I'm currently trying WinSetupFromUSB 1.8 which is made for Windows 2000/2003/XP and for USBs.
