I don't know if they can tell, but they really cannot enforce you to watch 1080p video on youtube.
But you'd only get 1.5MBPS max for video streaming.
That is if the 1080p content is rated under 1.5mbps you can still watch it smoothly.
But if its more than 1.5 than you will experience buffering.
To answer the question if there will be repercussion, absolutely not.
You're not breaking any rules, and even if you do, it's not worth it for them to sue you for this.
