I saw this video when looking for some different ways to light my computer up a bit and well... I was amazed by the PERFECT synchronization of these cathode lights to the music playing. I have to assume the sound module is somehow connected to the MOBO, but my limited knowledge of hardware makes it rather hard to google this... does any of you know how I would get lights to be spot on like this?

It's just a little box with a microphone in it. It limits the power to the cathodes depending on sound levels. I had one like 10 years ago.

Edit: This was the one I had. :)http://www.amazon.co.uk/PC-Sound-Activated-Control-Module/dp/B0009PVTZQ

Yeah but that would introduce a small delay between the sound being emitted by the speakers, to then be picked up by a microphone and then processed by whatever kind of miniprocessor is uses. Isn't there some plug that is a pass-through for analog or usb connections? to plug between the output/speakers and the mobo? To me that seems like THE way to properly sync lighting!

But it wouldn't be more than 1ms at most.

So if I want two sets of CCFL tubes (2x2) to react differently, I'd need 2 modules, correct?

Yep

I don't speak portugese so this unboxing/review was kind of hard to understand, but i found this 3.5" controller that i reaaaalllyyy like:

http://youtu.be/61rikF0fmW0?t=4m30s

(4:30 he shows the audio being used)

This thing is 3 times the price of the controller you mentioned, but would be a lot easier for me to adjust on the fly, and cable-management-wise it'd also be an improvement as I've got molex connections for all bays already in place. The product page says it supports 2 inverters, seeing the guy on the video used 1 inverter to power 2 CCFL tubes, can I assume that I can let this thing run 2x2 CCFL tubes? And would the two sets of tubes be able to be configured independently?

Edit: I don't think that that'll work actually, but that's okay

Edit 2: Just ordered the controller and two 30CM reds, gl me
