asking for a friend!

my friend wanted to know, is 2 Corsair MP500 480gb M.2’s compatible with the ASUS Maximus XI Formula? he was also going to buy an M.2 Expansion PCI-E Card that takes a ‘B Key M.2’ and an ‘M Key M.2’. overall this would be 4 M.2 drives with 1920gb worth of storage.

basically the overall question is will the MP500 be compatible with the board and the expansion card?

thanks,

Calvin

I get the feeling the plan is RAID0 here which I would seriously recommend against. The concern isn't a drive failing it's just that even for enthusiasts he is not going to see the performance he's expecting. Just buy a 2TB SATA SSD.

Also as far as I'm aware the PCI_e expansion card will not work. You can only run one PCI_e device per slot due to a lack of PCI_e bifurcation support which allows multiple PCI_e devices to run off the same slot. He would have to buy two adapters and use up two PCI_e slots. It's not worth it.

He has ~650-700$ to spend on the four SSDs. For a bit more, he can literally get a drive with 60 DWPD, nearly the same capacity and much better 4K. (this is definitely unneccessary)
