I was using Synergy for years with Windows and Linux, and it just isn’t working correctly any longer. The current version isn’t working with Ubuntu 19.04 and the beta works on 19.04 but is no longer getting support.

I have 2 computers (One Windows and one Ubuntu) I have 4 monitors all together. Two for Windows and two for Linux. I want to control both computers with one mouse and one keyboard and just have the mouse able to go to any monitor. I’ve seen some KVM’s but with buttons on them to switch something, I am a little confused about that.

What is a hardware solution? Basically do exactly what Synergy does but hardware.

A solid hardware solution would be a KVM (The ones level1techs sell are quite amazing). You plug your peripherals to the KVM, them from the KVM you plug USBs into the desired PCs. The buttons let you choose which PC sees the peripherals. However, you can only have one PC active with the peripherals at a time (not like synergy where you can freely move between machines without having to switch)

I don't know how well this does, but logitech does let you pair multiple receivers to a single device and will let you move between PCs. At least that's what my MX Master claims to be able to do, but I've never bothered trying to use it.

Might seem like a noob question but how do I use the devices with multiple computers with only one USB dongle?

You have to have multiple dongles sadly. You plug one in per device. Though if you buy a mouse and keyboard, you already will have two

I actually fixed one of my problems. I was getting an "IPC Connection Error, Code=7" I turned my firewall settings to private network, and it worked right away.

On Ubuntu I am trying to stay away from Beta 2 since Synergy is no long pushing updates, but 1.8.8 was able to be installed.
