Hi all

I have 2 cads in SLI and I have noticed that one gets a bit hotter then the other. Now I was wondering, why is that ??
Is this because one has 2 monitors connected ?
Is one card working harder then the other ?
Is it always like this ?
Is this a normal thing ?

BTW I got 1 new and the other I got it from ebay...

Could be the eBay card was reposted poorly or something but I don’t think so.

My BEST guess is the top card gets hotter because heat is rising from the second card. This makes the only airflow available to the primary card hitter.

other possibility is restricted airflow to one of the cards.

Is the second card right up against the bottom of the case or PSU? Is the PSU pulling from inside or outside the case?

What case are do you have?

If you have 2 cards in SLI, the card that is at the top or the one with fans facing the back of the other one has less access to air. This, combined with the increased temperature of the air because of the second card, causes one card to be slightly hotter than the other.

Yes it does but same thing happened when I had just one card installed.. so ?? should I change the thermal paste

Play with fan curves before repasting, it could save you some labour

This is the issue I had with my SLI air cooled.  The top card got super hot.  A bunch of hot air is basically getting blown/sucked into it from the card below it and it tended to stay in the 70's, sometimes in the 80's in taxing AAA titles.  Fan noise got so annoying I had to switch

Im thinking about replacing is thermal paste with something better. I have thermal grizzly. I used it on my old laptop cause I was getting 60 c in idle mode and after using it the temp went down to 30c and never got higher then 70

yea I did that but it can be loud. I set the fan to 50%

Well even if you replace the paste you won't see a big temperature change

Plus 50 is nothing

what do you recommend ?

If you don't already have a fan directly blowing onto the cards, get one. If you do, turn the rpm up if you can.

Otherwise, turn the fan speeds up and suffer with a few decibels or don't run SLI

Open air cards aren't good for that. Especially with limited space. Id just get better airflow was a whole and turn the gpu fans up. Or just let the temps be.

I was thinking about getting a bigger case. But I hate to spend 50 or 100 $ on a case .. The one I have was like 30 $

If U know of any good budget cases please link them

Meh, im gonna buy another used case for 60 bucks. Plenty of flow. Ordering a piece of glass is gonna cost me more than that. Idk about decent cases. Id just check locally for something used if you can.

dont really think I can

Where do you buy used cases ?

Facebook, Craigslist. Flea market. A lot of paces I’d imagine.

If a case is out of the budget, it’s prolly best to let it be.
