Hi LTT Community,

I'm replacing a co-worker in vacation time as a tech support which is not my main job (i know some technical aspects but no too much) and i was requested to install a new system for one of the organization managers.

To not go through all the OS and software install process, i was thinking to just clone the old machine SSD to the SSD in the new system. They have some specific programs that require more technical knowledge and i may not be able to do the entire process of installing and configuring all the software (SAP Configuration, CRM etc.)

With this i ask, will this process work? I'm afraid of licence problems, and driver issues.

I already did the process of cloning a disk but it was just a simple HD to SSD swap, the other parts of the computer stayed the same.

Thank you!

If clone the drive using something like miniTool Partition Wizard, you don't wipe the old drive. The data still stays there. You can try cloning the drive with that, and if that doesn't work then you may want to look at what deployment software you have. You might be able to use something like smartDeploy to take the old drive and create a master disk to clone off of.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

I know that the old drive will stay the same, my concern is if something will conflict in the new machine, since all the drives installed are from the old machine (different laptops).

Will try this way, if something dont work i will do the fresh setup... At least the data is safe... Thank you!
